A Wedding Day That Took a Different Turn
Their original wedding plans included a much bigger celebration, but COVID 19 had other plans. When the lockdowns forced them to cancel everything, they eventually decided not to wait any longer. As soon as courthouse ceremonies became possible again, they chose to elope and make the day about the two of them. We met them at the courthouse for a quick photo session before heading out to Buffalo Bayou for portraits. Even though their wedding day looked very different from what they had originally imagined, there was something really beautiful about how intimate and personal it became.
From The Lost Lake to the Houston Skyline
After the courthouse, we headed to The Lost Lake at Buffalo Bayou Park, one of our favorite spots for a mix of nature and modern Houston architecture. The combination of water, greenery, concrete, and architectural details gave the portraits a peaceful yet cinematic feel. We explored around the pond, stopping near the brutalist style fountain and under the palm trees. The contrast between the soft greenery and strong architectural lines created so many different looks throughout the session. As golden hour approached, we made our way to one of our favorite nearby spots, a bridge with a beautiful open view of the downtown Houston skyline. The afternoon light, the city in the distance, and the way these two looked at each other made the perfect ending to their unexpected wedding day. Sometimes the plans change, but that doesn’t mean the story becomes any less beautiful. Their courthouse elopement was proof that even in the middle of an incredibly uncertain time, love still found a way to be celebrated.
