A Vibrant Tradition Full of Meaning
We had such an amazing time capturing a vibrant and joyful Haldi ceremony the day before this beautiful Indian wedding in Houston. The Haldi ceremony is one of the most fun and meaningful pre-wedding traditions in South Asian culture. “Haldi” means turmeric in Hindi, and that golden yellow powder was the star of the day—both for its traditional significance and its bold, beautiful color that looked incredible in photos! Both the bride and groom celebrated their Haldi ceremony at home, surrounded by close family and friends. The homes were filled with bright decor, marigolds, and a lot of love. Before the ceremony began, the women of both families came together to prepare the Haldi paste using fresh turmeric roots, sandalwood powder, and rose water—a mix believed to bring blessings, purify the skin, and give the couple that pre-wedding glow. Everyone joined in by applying the Haldi paste to the bride’s and groom’s faces, arms, and feet. It was full of laughter, color, and happy energy. Friends and family wore shades of yellow and orange to match the festive mood, and every moment was filled with joy. These types of wedding celebrations are a dream for any photographer—full of tradition, emotion, and color that tells such a rich story. We are incredibly grateful to Schweta & Chaitanya for trusting us with capturing this beautiful and colorful ceremony for the first time and to their parents to patiently guiding us throughout the day.
